All over America

Cars like this vintage Triumph are hidding in garages, barns, basements, and sheds all over America. They are a part of our history.

Refrigerator Car

This BMW has a door on the front that opens like a refrigerator. The back seat is accessable by a single door on the right. If you know what the correct model year is, let me know. I saw it parked at a scooter meet in Hiawassee, Georgia.

Police Car

This 1956 Plymouth police car is part of the scenery at Dollywood. I originally had this car labeled 1955, but if I had looked at those tail fins, I would have known better. Plymouth went from a flathead six in 1954 to a V8 in 1955. It was a big difference in performance. The sad thing is that they don't even make Plymouths any more.

Jeeps

These two World War II vintage Jeeps were at a Warbird museum near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Gray is the Navy color.

MG in Mexico

This MG was parked in Acapulco, Mexico near where the cliff divers put on their show. The car may be a replica, but the divers were the real thing.

1934 Ford Sedan

I saw this at a scooter meet in Lebanon, Indiana.

Straight Eight

This flathead, in-line eight powers a Pontiac. Can you spot the 6 volt battery?

The Continental Kit

This circa 1955 Ford sports a Continental Kit. It may not make a Ford look like a Lincoln Continental, but it provides a little extra space in trunk. Some people claimed it improved handling.

Cars of the 1950's

These cars from the 1950's are (from the top down) a Mercury, a Chevrolet, a Ford, a Cadillac and a Studebaker.

If you scroll down about 8 pictures, you can see the other end of the Studebaker. This model is called a Studebaker Hawk.

'57 Ford Sunliner

Chevrolet

Three views of a late 20's Chevy. This model is easily confused with the ever-popular Model A Ford.

MG TD

In the 1950's, the MG was a popular little English sports car.

Model A Ford stories

One of my favorite Model A stories is the one about the man who bought a new Ford in 1930. When he got married, he and his new wife took a honeymoon trip in it. Then when their son got old enough to drive, about 1950, they gave him the old Ford and bought an new one. The son continued to drive it, and when he got married, it went on another honeymoon.

But soon after that, the old car went into the barn and stayed there until the son had a son who wanted to get married. So three generations rolled out the old Model A, completely restored it, and sent it off on a third honeymoon.

Do you know any good Model A stories?

A white Model A.

Henry Ford said, "Give them any color they want as long as it's black."

1966 Oldsmobile

This was in a car show in Knox County, Tennessee.

gasoline tanker

This old truck delivered gasoline to filling stations in the 1920's. We saw it as we were driving home from Seattle after 9/11. I think it was in Idaho.

Coke truck

This old delivery truck was on display at Opryland Hotel.

Should have kept that one.

The car in this
1957 family group is a '46 Ford club coupe. I should never have sold that one. We still have the kid. That's Ed.

Seen in Canada

We were just driving through a small town in Nova Scotia when this popped up. I'm not sure what it is. Notice the old-style gas pump.

vintage Hudson poster

This old ad for Hudson motor cars was in a restaurant in Nova Scotia. Looks like a '53 Hudson Hornet to me.

A '57 VW Bug (This ain't it.)

Our son-in-law has a '57 Bug, and we will have a '57 Bug when ours gets back from the restorer, but this one was parked in a parking lot in Maryville, Tennessee.

A very old truck at a Tractor Show

I was looking around at a tractor show near Sweetwater, Tennessee, when I spotted this. It's a Model T Ford, probably from the 1920's. I think the Model T began about 1915, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Some more tractor show cars

So I guess there is more to a tractor show than just tractors. That green truck is a Chevy, circa 1935. Below that is a picture of the interior of a '46 Ford. It looks just like the one I had when I was in college. Next is a 46 Mercury club coupe, a model A coupe, and a '46 Ford with the hood up. The orginal flathead V8 was still in there.

"Barn fresh"

When a scooter collector finds an old unrestored scooter that has been sitting for decades, it's called a
"barn fresh" scooter. These pictures show one of my barn-fresh finds. This one actually did come out of a barn. It was in rural southern Georgia. It's a Cushman Pacemaker circa 1953.

Ford Model T truck

Trucks like this are the grandfathers of modern pickups. Notice the woodwork.
