Flashback to 1939

It looks like 1939. But is it? What do you see in this picture that tells you it was made much more recently than that? I took the picture in November of 2005. It was in color, but I converted it to black and white. You probably noticed the modern streetlight which wouldn't likely be in a picture made in 1939. It's a good picture in color, but I like it in black and white.

Can anybody tell me the model year of the car? There is another picture below.

1938 Chevy

I found this Chevy today, just outside of Cosby, Tennessee. I think it is a '37, but I could be off a couple of years. Can anybody pin down the correct year for me?

It has the look of an original, rather than restored. And it came from a time when cars were beautiful.
Howard

Update: Several people said the model year of this car was either 37 or 38, but Beryl from Bluff City, Tennessee pinned it down for me. Thanks Beryl.

"Howard, the old Chevy in your picture is a 1938. I
learned to drive on a 36 Chevy and was born in '37 and
have fond memories of all these cars. The '35 thru
'39 Chevys were very simular but all years had
distinctive grills. Beryl"
