Cars, the Old Stuff

Suppose you went down into your basement one day and found this? It's a beautifully restored 1957 Volkswagen. Did you notice the small window in the back? The '58 had a window so big you could actually see where you were backing up. This one is done in the original 1957 colors.

My basement? Unfortunately, no. But it is in the family and belongs to my son-in-law who came home from the hospital as a newborn in this very car. I guess you could say that he and this car go back a long way. He gave my wife and I a '57 similar to this and it is currently being restored by the same restorer who did this one. It should be ready in the spring, and I can hardly wait. Ours has already been painted Horizon Blue and is waiting for the engine. It has the "patch on the roof" style sunroof, but that and the color are the only difference between the two cars.
